Summary: William writes that he will guarantee payment for 50 copies of M? Journal. He references a religious Conference of which he did not have a good experience, noting that "if the checks and guards were insufficient there to prevent violation of the Congregational principle, one can never feel safe". Going on to discuss his work in St. Louis, he says that he is not raising as much money as he would wish and may have to defer some projects. However, he believes that St. Louis can become a great city and that it is necessary to develop educational and charitable institutions.
