Summary: Sherman informs William that he wrote a letter of condolence to an old adversary General Hood whose wife recently passed away. Sherman then mentions D. F. Boyd, one of his former prisoners during the war that he released. He speaks very highly of Royd's intelligence and integrity, as he used to be a professor. He believes that he could convince Boyd to leave his current position and, if William so desires, have him work for Washington University, possibly as president. W.T.
