Summary: Mother is very happy to hear that Abby has arrived safely. She talks some about the weather in New Bedford and talks about various family and friends. She mentions that William Potter is engaged to Lizzie Babcock and everyone is very happy about it. Dawes seems to be a bit homesick in Cambridge [at Harvard?] and they are trying to see if he can be allowed to visit home on Sunday. She saw in the paper that Duncan has been commissioned into a heavy artillery regiment. She also encloses photographs from herself and Mary to Tom, Hal, and Ada. Mother in New Bedford to Abby Eliot.
